Disaster Recovery

No one can forecast the future. Issues happen every day. Every service must be resilient Cloud Acropolis understands that. After all we also are a company with many services and many responsibilities. After many months of research, development and tests, we have arrived to the ideal solution to backup regularly servers in our main data center and recover them within very few minutes in our DR site.

Here is how it works. We have created an alternative solution to Acronis. We will backup any VM in an incremental manner every 10 to 20 minutes. These will be stored in a secondary storage which will be replicated in real time between our main site and our DR site in Nizwa (about 180 km aside).

The moment the VM needs to be restored (based on a support ticket), our engineers will boot it up in our DR site. It will be identical to the main site, up to the internal IP. Then we will NAT and external IP to it and communicate it with replying to the support ticket. The new valid IP needs to be inserted in the DNS by either your engineers or ours, depending where the DNS is and who is managing it.

For the entire process it should not take more than 30 minutes. However we are doing it under 9 minutes.

Very simple, very easy, very fast, very low cost. Here is what is needed:

• Rent the storage needed for your server (10 OMR per 100 GB per month)
• Fill up your account in Cloud Acropolis by credit for:
  • VM that needs to be recovered (same price as your actual server)
  • Recovery services (30 OMR per server)
  • Internet Services, depending on the needed speed.
• Pay a setup fee (30 OMR)

Et Voila! The servers have a DR setup.
